ABOUT THE SOUTHEASTERN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA The Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1972 and was created to provide performances of the highest artistic caliber to entertain and educate audiences in the region in order to contribute to the well-being of society by enhancing, enriching, and expanding the cultural lives of the residents of Montgomery County and the North Penn region.Originally created to replace the Lansdale Symphony, Founding Music Director Leonard Murphy shaped the North Penn Symphony Orchestra into a cultural fixture of the North Penn region. Over the past three and a half decades the North Penn Symphony Orchestra has performed over 550 works by more than 200 composers, collaborating with dozens of guest artists, offering concerts for thousands of people throughout the region. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra is equally dedicated to outreach and education. The Symphony sponsors the Pre-Concert Conductor’s Crash Courses, Young Artists Competitions, and Kid Konductors!. In the past several seasons, audiences have grown in record numbers, and over the last few years almost 5,000 people see the support of sponsors and advertisers each year. From 1972 to 2002, Leonard Murphy served as Music Director & Conductor and beginning with the 2002-2003 Season, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra began another significant chapter in its history with the appointment of the Orchestra’s second Music Director, nationally noted Philadelphia Conductor Allan R. Scott. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra recently became one of the annual performers at Lansdale’s new Whites Road Park outdoor amphitheatre and the Symphony will become the principal resident artist at the new Lansdale Performing Arts Center in 2009. |
